About Wendy

About Wendy

I’m a freelance writer, poet/author, and IBCLC. (I don’t do all of those things at once!) I live in New York with my husband and two awesome kids. I survive on coffee and chocolate. Obviously.

Here are some more specifics:

Journalism & Content Marketing

I’ve been writing since I was a small child. I love what I do, and I work diligently, quickly, and meticulously. I know how to connect with readers, tell a good story, make complex medical data user-friendly, and create lively, engaging content.

My areas of focus are general health and wellness, women’s health, infant/child health, mental health, and parenting.

I’ve published hundreds of articles and essays in places like The Washington Post, VICE, Family Circle, Parents Magazine, Lilith Magazine, Rewire, Your Teen Magazine, and Brain, Child Magazine. I’ve provided content for companies like Care.com, SingleCare, Mattress Firm, Motherlove Herbals, Verizon, Kindred Bravely, Talkspace, and Public Goods.

I’m currently a contributing writer at Verywell, Healthline, Parents.com, and Health.com, and a freelance journalist/content marketing writer for various businesses and websites. From 2016-2021, I worked at Scary Mommy in several roles, including staff writer, social media manager, and associate editor.

Poetry

My first love is poetry. My poems have appeared widely in literary magazines, and I am the author of two books of poems, Epicenter and Morph and Bloom. I have an MFA in Poetry from Hunter College, where I taught writing and literature for four years. Cornerstone Press, part of the University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point, will be publishing my third book of poems in 2024.

Lactation Support & Education

I’m an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Lactation Educator/Counselor, and retired La Leche League leader. I was a La Leche League leader for many years, taught private breastfeeding classes for a while, and had a private lactation consultant practice for five years. Currently, I’m focused on supporting breastfeeding parents by writing compassionate, evidence-based health articles about breastfeeding, women’s health, infant/child health, and more.
